Easter Egg: From January 1–7, 1923, white mobs destroyed the predominantly Black town of Rosewood, Florida, after Fannie Taylor alleged that a Black man had assaulted her. At least six Black people and two white people were killed, though descendants believed the Black toll was higher. Sylvester Carrier died defending his family; survivors escaped and lost their property.
