From late August into early September 1958, white youths and organized racists attacked Caribbean residents in Nottingham and London’s Notting Hill district. Black residents defended homes and businesses while police made arrests on both sides. The attacks emerged from housing discrimination, fascist organizing and hostility toward postwar Caribbean migration.
